Predictive dialer software is a type of calling system that places multiple calls at a time using an algorithm that attempts to match answered calls with an available rep. Using data like # of agents, average call duration, and other metrics, it "predicts" when reps will be available to take answered calls.
The software uses voice detection technology to determine when a call is answered and then routes the call to an agent after the contact says "hello" resulting in an audible delay.
